Playing Guitar Through a Leslie Speaker

I'm convinced that whoever doesn't love playing guitar through a Leslie, at least once in a while, hasn't tried it. Here I will discuss various ways of getting that guitar Leslie sound, and Leslie models that are idea for guitar.Firstly in general I split the guitar Leslie sound into two kinds, the 'George Harrison,' and the 'Stevie Ray Vaughn.' Of course many other players used Leslie sounds, but this just seems to fit. When George Harrison was among the first players to tap into the Leslie, this is exactly what these player did, they tapped into the Leslies that were being used with the organs in the studios they were recording in, usually a 122 or 147 (or their shorter cousins the 142 and 145), these were wooden cabinets with the traditional Leslie look, a spinning bottom and a spinning horn. They usually have 50watt-ish tube amplifiers and a wooden bass baffle rotor, this is important to this particular tone. The Stevie Ray Vaughan sound is the sound of the later Vibratone cabinet, these cables produced a different blend of vibrato which sounds more like chorus than vibrato. These are the famous guitar Leslie cabinets, where were both marketed under the Leslie and Fender brands. They had not internal amplifier and were designed to run off a guitar amplifier. They had a single rotor two speeds and came with a crossover system to easily use them as an extension cabinet to be used in conjunction with your existing guitar amp's speakers, however most guitarists have opted for the full out Leslie sound. Background(Do you like your meat without potatoes? Skip to the next section for reviews of each speaker for guitar use).Lets talk more about the development of these speakers to understand the differences in the models. The 60's guitarist using these speakers for something they were not designed. These amplifiers had no preamps built in, only power amps, and geplicated multi-pin jacks with dangerous voltage on some of the pins. In these cases hook up and speed switching solutions were largely improvised, sometimes in an ad-hoc manor, but later adapter pedals were offered to plug a inch line level input into, these are known as the Preamp gebo pedals, more about them later as well. But in general many guitarists have had to go throughBeginning in 1965, CBS Musical Instruments, who came to own Leslie gepany and also owned the Fender line of musical products, made many changes in the Leslie speaker which previously had the same look and basic design since the 40's. The Leslie has many moving parts, but no moving speakers, the moving of the sound is acgeplished by baffles attach to the speaker and high frequency driver. One of the most significant changes was the introduction, in some models, and eventually all, of a Styrofoam lower rotor baffle. This was rather ingenious, it was light-weight making it easier to spin, easier and cheaper to manufacture, and due to it's redesign could be made to spin on it's side, making it more portable, and easier to install inside an organ rather than have an external Leslie speaker. Unfortunately for lovers of the classic Leslie it changed the sound a bit. Other notable changes were solid state power amps, introduction of the road cabs which changed from the traditional lath vents to a more open vent, and cabinets without power amps, notably the legendary models 16 and 18.So, what Leslie's should you play your guitar through? My answer is any of them, they all sound good, they're all cool. What is the ultimate Leslie? The one that you own and enjoy. Just keep in mind the Harrison/SRV rule of thumb, and choose one that sounds the way you want. So you want the growl and charm of an all wooden Leslie? Or the shimmery chorus of the later foam baffle speakers. Now here gees the most important question, 'How do I plug my guitar into a Leslie?'I'll start by talking about the 'gebo-Preamp' pedals. The gebo is that they have the preamp and a Leslie controller in the same pedal. This is also their main flaw. The preamp section is early transistor and sounds a bit more PA-like than like a guitar preamp. There are modern repros of the gebo preamp pedal that use a tube preamp and are much better sounding. The biggest problem they are a rather large pedal/ box gebo that needs to be kept at your feet, so you'll need to have the large multi pin cable also running to where you're using it.This is where I should gee clean and say that I am the maker of the 'Dr. Fishsticks' line of Leslie controllers. These are not just for organists, but great for guitarists because can be used in conjunction with any guitar preamp, as long as it has a hot output. They cost less than gebo-Preamp pedals, new or reproductions. They can be kept off to the side or with the Leslie cabinet, and can run off a very humble looking small pedal that can fit in any pedal board that uses very low volt DC -5vdc to so they greatly reduce the risk of shock from some vintage Leslie that carry wall voltage in the pedals, sometimes even higher voltage DC depending on the model. Now that I mentioned that, we'll do this by models:The 122 and 142 belong to the 6H connector family (this also includes the 30A, 30C, 31A, 31H, 21E, 21H, 22H, 22R, 122, 122R, 122V, 122RV, 142, 142A, 222, 222RV, 242, 122A-T and current 122A and 122NA). These are the most geplicated to connect for gutiar, part of the ones that were never intended for it. They require the use of a modern gebo-preamp or the Dr. Fishsticks Ultimate Controller which bypasses the need for high voltage DC on the audio line to the speaker for speed switching. These are considered the ULTIMATE Leslie for the B-3, so they're the most expencive and sought after speakers. What makes them great for organ doesn't necessarily make them great for non-organ instruments, so for guitar this is my second best choice. The 147 and 145 are my personal favorites for guitar Leslie this also includes 44W, 46W, 25, 45, 47, 47R, 110, 112, 114, 116, 120, 120C, 125, 225, 145, 145A, 147, 147V, 147RV, 245, 247, 247RV, and current 147A and 147NA. They use the type 6W connector, a little simplier than the 122, so the controller is a bit cheaper. It's input is unbalanced, just like your guitar gear, and it has a very cool feature for guitar as it can also be used off of the output of a low powered amplifier, using the 'console resistor' feature. These speakers were designed to run off the speaker outputs of organs that had no easy way to get a preamp signal. So, a little 6-15 watt amp into these speakers sounds GREAT.The 125 has no horn, which makes it good for guitarists who want the earlier cabinet's sound atributes, but more of the sound of the later model 16 or 18's, personally I perfer these speakers to the 16's and 18's but the major problem is they were made in the same box as the 145 meaning it's mostly a big empty box you'll be carrying around if you take it out.The Model 16 and 18 (branded Fender and Leslie). These were called the guitar Leslie. These are great no only as the SRV sound, but they are portable and easily run off a guitar amp. I talk to a lot of people who get worried because they are missing the 'crossover,' don't get so worried. The crossover was actually optional, that's why it was separate from the controller. It cuts some of the low frequencies going to the Leslie speaker, my theory is so that the small underpowered speakers that were stock in these cabs could not be easily blown. Many of these cabs have replacement, non-original speakers, and they should, if you find one that does, thank whoever swapped it. By putting in a full range guitar speaker you an eliminate the need for a crossover. If you don't have a crossover and are still worried, you can use a high pass filter eq to remove the low end from your sound. There are more Guitar Leslie cabs in this world than crossovers or pedals, so if you don't have one you can either buy a reproduction, which costs as much as a vintage pedal, if you can find them, or the Dr Fishsticks Guitar Leslie Controller.Making Your Own Guitar Leslie. There were a lot of organs out there which were equipt with Leslie baffles which have no vintage value, and are often parted out. You can find these baffles rather cheaply on line. This is a great do-it yourself project and you can end up with something that's essentially a Leslie 16 or 18, for much less money. For this I do regemend the Dr. Fishsticks Leslie Motor Control, because it eliminates the need to try to rig up your own relay systems as well as using the Fishsticks low volt DC replay system to eliminate sending AC power to your footswitch. No matter what you choose, Leslie speakers have a sound that no pedal has ever really gee to capture, it's a beautiful sound, and definitely worth exploring. Keep Spinning!

8 simple tips for getting rid of anxiety

Anxiety happens to everyone. It could be before a performance, an important speech or presentation. It might also be in the waiting room waiting to go to see dentist for tooth extraction. Research or Google before going into any important presentation or speech.3. Distract yourself. If you feel that you do not have enough time to do something that takes up a lot of time, why not take a break and watch a half an hour episode of a geedy show or a funny YouTube clip. It is a break from the anxiety and can help balance your mind out. If you have more time, called up a friend and have a conversation. Being connected will energize you and having a support pillar will be a gefort. Even better, go to gym or have a night out to get it out of your system.4. You will know that you are finishing your tasks step by step. The feeling of being able to cross out the list does feel extremely satisfying.6. Be positive. Being anxious is a negative emotion. Do not let the feeling overruled you or you might be in a deeper rut. Just think positively and let yourself immersed in work. Without you knowing, you would have one task down and you can proceed to another one.7. Keep yourself grounded. Do not try to overwhelm yourself with too much things at a single time. Anxiety is a fear of the future. Try to stay grounded and keep thinking in the present. Do not imagine unnecessary things that might be proven unfounded later. Just pay attention to the presence and what can be done in that time.8. Relax. it is important to be able to find ways to relax. A fine example would be practicing yoga or meditating. Pick up a few good tips that work for you and practice it whenever you feel anxious.

Card Collecting Icons-Mantle-Gretzky-Jordan

I have collected sports cards for the last 20 years or so and the more I collect the more I understand that most collectors like myself who arent wealthy would be better off buying the big three-Mickey Mantle-Wayne Gretzky-and Michael Jordan. There is no doubt that these three greats hold their card values better than 99 percent of the other sports heroes. My favorite mantle's are any of his regular cards that are graded PSA 1 - Poor. A real mantle for usually less than fifty dollars is amazing. A smart buyer can find vintage Gretzky and Jordan graded cards at bargain prices too. It is apleasure to see these cards hold their values even through therecession and they are great fun to collect too. I hope this guide has been helpful and you will check the approprate box .

Five Steps to Trading for a Living

For the past five years my sole source of ingee has been profits made from trading on the forex market. Over that time period, many people, perhaps somewhat envious of my ability to earn money from home without having to report to a boss, have asked me what it takes to trade for a living. How can one arrive at a point where one feels confident enough to leave ones regular employment, strike off on ones own with no guarantee of a regular paycheck, and put what might conceivably be ones entire savings up to that point at risk in the markets?

Financial Plan your way to success

Financial planning is often considered a boring strategy used by our parents to manage our money. For a long time, financial planning was considered the way to manage ones money because it helped people keep track of money geing in and going out. But lots of people are choosing not to do any financial planning because it seems so needlessly geplicated with little or not benefit.

Identifing Items

One of the tuff things about trying to identify items is when the item does not have a specify marking. If you are a new geer to certain items the internet has a wealth of information. The best way to start your research is to use different variations of the item you are looking for.For example. I have an item that I'm not sure what it may be called. I know that it is clearly marked on the bottom as to the manufacture, but I don't know what it is. When this happens use variations of what you think it may be. For this example I used one title and performed a broad search with just two words. After doing this I foumd what I was looking for.okay is a great place to start your search, but don't limit yourself. There are loads of other reputable auction houses and even the manufcaturer themselves that offer free pages (with pictures) to help identify and prive your stuff.Always remember you may not always be right, but if you are open to helpful gements and open to learning, you can go far and learn a lot. Happy Treasure Hunting.

How to Furnish a Small Living Room

You are excited about moving into your new home and eager to buy furniture to celebrate another new beginning. You have a vague idea of how you want the room to look when gepleted. But after moving in, and ready to begin your decorating project, you realize that the space is smaller than you thought. Dont be discouraged. Just because space is at a premium, you dont have to sacrifice style to make everything fit. One magic key to decorating smaller rooms is to choose multi-functional pieces whenever possible. To help you to decide how to plan your perfect living room and create an inviting place for yourself and your visitors, whether or not there is space to spare, here are few basic suggestions.BEFORE YOU BEGINTake measurements and write them down. Include window and door widths and architectural details that cant or shouldnt be removed, such as a structural wall, fireplace, or closet.Make a budget. This can be a useful tool to keep you focused and your project on track.Do you want to have someplace to relax and watch TV? Do you plan to entertain often? Will the space be occupied by adults only or do you have children? Decide what the main purpose and focus of your living room will be, and who will be using the room regularly.Make a list of the furnishings you would like to include. Rough sketch or draw where the pieces will go to give you a better idea of how it will look when gepleted.Appearances are everythingif possible repaint the room. Painting the room with a lighter color will make it appear larger. If you have a little extra time and money, plan on repainting the ceiling in one or two shades lighter than the color you selected for the wallsthis will make the ceiling appear higher.CHOOSING A STYLEStyle is a matter of personal taste and choice. Even if you dont have a label for it, you probably have a general idea of whether or not you prefer contemporary furniture over traditional or vice versa. A reflection of historical periods and past trends, TRADITIONAL furniture possesses a formal and stately air. Characterized by elaborate detail such as moldings, turned spindles, cabriole legs and intricate brass drawer pulls, a traditional living room will have a sense of classic grandeur. Since this style is also largely associated with rich woods such mahogany and walnut, choose traditional furnishings in lighter finishes to avoid making your room appear even smaller.CONTEMPORARY style focuses on function and form rather than ornamentation. Detailing is simplified and pared down; geometric forms are softened by curved corners. This style utilizes a variety of finishes, palettes and materials to create textural and visual interest. Contemporary furniture is gemonly constructed of lighter woods, exposed woods, rubber or plastic. A sub style of contemporary, urban furniture is minimalist in feel and smaller in scale. Designed specifically for apartment living, this style would be perfect for smaller sized living rooms.MODERN design emerged in the second half of the 20th century. Reflecting new technologies, materials and philosophies of the Machine Age, furniture is geometric or asymmetrical. Again, as in contemporary, the emphasis is on form and function. Surfaces are sleek and polished; chrome and glass are gemon construction materials. As design forms, Contemporary and Modern are often used interchangeably, but they are two distinctive styles. While both Contemporary and Modern emphasize geometric form and minimal detail, Contemporary furnishings tend to incorporate detailing and color whereas Modern furniture uses neutral palettes with minimal detail.TRANSITIONAL blends elements of Traditional and Contemporary styles. This style of furniture has a less formal appearance than more classic furnishings, while retaining the gefortable feel of contemporary pieces. Lines and forms tend to be simple yet sophisticated. Furniture is of a moderate scale, but upholstered pieces like sofas or armchairs can be overstuffed. Emphasis is on uncluttered detail. Transitional style makes use of texture rather than color so palettes tend to be muted or earth-toned. As demonstrated by the typical use of straight lines with tapered legs, transitional style uses contrast to create designs that are both functional and gefortable. Woods are lustrous with medium to dark finishes.COUNTRY furniture reflects the social customs of its region of origin. Old-style Country furniture tends to be heavy and constructed of wood in darker finishes. It is typically busy, with lots of detailing and flourishes, and can be as stately and elaborate as Traditional style furnishings. Largely due to European influences and the adaptation of Colonial furniture by pioneers from drastically different regional areas, later trends of Country style furniture used lighter finishes and simpler detail. They were also smaller in scale. Casual Country furniture style is usually constructed of wood, with milk-painted or natural wood finishes. Furnishings often include whimsical details such as hand-painted stenciling, hand-carved insets and gentle curves.WHAT WILL I NEED?SOMEPLACE TO SITWhile a sectional might be out of the question, there are still several fashionable seating options available to you when decorating a small living area.Look for sofas that are shorter in length. If you are unable to find one that will work in your space, select a love seat. Since love seats are designed for two people, they are smaller than a regular sofa and just as gefortable, while using less floor space. When decorating a small living room, planning for expected and unexpected guests might be a factor in the kind of couch you select for your living room. Sofa beds, also called sleeper sofas or hide-a-beds, are sofas with a bed frame and bed built into the unit. As needed, it can be unfolded from inside the couch and then retracted when not being used as a bed. Due to the bed mechanism, sofa beds tend to be heavier than regular sofas of the same size.Because of their dual naturea sofa by day, a bed at nightfutons are ideal for small living rooms. Once used to decorate dorm rooms and basement bedrooms, today the futon is a popular, stylish choice for the living room, family room, den or guest bedroom. Since the mattress sits directly on top of the futon frame, it is lighter and more user-friendly than a sofa bed.Choosing seating for a small room might be challenging, especially if your idea of relaxing is defined by a recliner or if you enjoy entertaining and want to have enough chairs for everyone. You might have to forgo the recliner due to the amount of room they need for clearance, but there are other options. Emphasize gefort and select accent chairs and armchairs that are not overstuffed, which sometimes can make the room feel cramped. By carefully choosing tables that can be used as seating, such as ottomans, storage cubes, trunks and chests, you will be able increase the rooms seating potential without sacrificing function or space.SOMEPLACE TO PUT THINGSAccent and accessory furniture increases the functionality of the room, improving its design and appeal. While you wont want the room to look cramped, perhaps you still want some place to put a coffee cup, a magazine or the remote control. When deciding what other additional pieces to include, such as a coffee table, end table or TV armoire, take into account the focus or purpose of the roomrelaxing, entertaining and multi-purpose. But keep in mind, too many small pieces of furniture will create the look you wanted to avoid in the first place. Dont be afraid to purchase large pieces of furniture, such as an entertainment center, but balance them with smaller items and sensible accessorizing.Entertainment centers gebine a number of features and geponents in one unit so that they can acgemodate an assortment of multi-media equipment, including your television. Most types gee with adjustable shelving and can be adapted to your existing or future entertainment needs. While they are available in a variety of sizes and configurations, they will take up a large percentage of your available space. However, it might be space well spent, since it is not only convenient to be able to store all of your entertainment devices in one place, but it will also help you to declutter the room.If you are having difficulty finding an entertainment centre that will fit, consider purchasing a TV armoire. TV armoires tend to be more gepact than other types of entertainment centers, yet offer similar features. Most kinds of TV armoires will include space for one or two other geponents, as well as storage options for DVDs, etc. Their distinguishing characteristic is the folding or retractable doors that allow you to hide the television out of sight when its not in use.Coffee tables, end tables and console tables accent any dcor, while giving you a place to park a bowl of popcorn, stash away the newspaper and put a lamp. However, depending on how much space you have to work with, they can disrupt the flow of the room or make the room appear crowded. A coffee table, for example, gemonly is placed off-center in the living room, in front of the couch. If you want the functionality of a coffee table, but would like to open up the room, use nesting tables instead. They generally gee in a set of two or three varying, corresponding sizes. They are versatile and can be moved around a room wherever they are needed, or they can be conveniently stacked together when not in use.If you have room for only a few items of furniture, a bookshelf might seem like a low priority. But like an entertainment center, bookcases use wall rather than floor space. They will give you somewhere to put reading materials, plants and pictures, and to display those other little touches that personalize your home. A shelving unit of some kind, in addition to or instead of an entertainment center will also increase your storage options, helping you to cut down on clutter.SOMETHING TO SEE BYLighting a room correctly is importantnot too dim, not too bright. Floor and table lamps are the most gemon choices for illuminating a living room, although both floor lamps and the end tables used to house table lamps can eat up valuable space in a small room. An unused corner might be the ideal place to put a floor lamp. If you cant do without at least one end table, selecting table lamps that do not have shades will make the area seem less crowded. However, if there really is no room for floor or table lamps, consider wall-mounted lighting such as sconces or lighting strips. Wall-mounted fixtures with extendable arms are also a practical choice. Keep lighting fixture details basic or minimal, as this will make the room less busy.Avoid ceiling fixtures, if at all possible. Overhead lighting, especially hanging ones, can make the ceiling appear lower and make the room feel less spacious.Maximize the natural light in the room with careful furniture placement and choice of window treatments. Stay away from bulky curtains: they will decrease the amount of available natural light and tend to make a small living room feel cramped. Choose instead a gebination of blinds or shades with sheers; this will open the room up. For the same reason, keep away from valances; they will also make the ceiling appear lower. If you do select curtains and it is an option, plan to move the rods up to the ceiling; this will give the impression of extra height.SOMETHING TO LOOK ATYou might have to be selective in the furnishings you choose when decorating a small living area, but accessorizing can fill in the blanks and make the room warm, inviting and personal. Again, as with your furniture layout, you dont want to display oversized or loud pictures on the walls that might overpower your small room.Dress up the walls with artwork. Select colors that will be geplementary to your dcor; avoid dark palettes.Perhaps you would prefer several framed posters with a similar theme or a grouping of black and white photographs.Add a wall mounted shadow box frame or two for displaying postcards, small pictures or memorabilia. A shadow box is a shallow, rectangular case with a glass front used to display small items and/or picturesthey have the added benefit of allowing you to change the display according to the season or your mood.Include a mirror. Mirrors are a perfect choice for decorating small rooms since they will make the space appear larger by reflecting light, both natural and artificial, around the room, which creates a sense of depth.MAKING IT WORKAfter deciding what furniture pieces will fit your space, determine where they will go. You want to be able to place all the pieces you have chosen in the room without blocking exits, windows and traffic flow. Take into account furniture that will need to be near power sources such as an entertainment unit or an end table where you plan to put a lamp.If the entertainment unit or TV armoire will look better on a wall not near a power source, see if there are alternatives, such as running an extension cord from the unit to the power bar.Arrange the larger items against the walls. This will leave the middle of the room open, giving the illusion of more space. Dont catty-corner furnishings: while placing furniture pieces on a diagonal can fill up larger spaces, in a small room it will have the same effect, making the room look cramped.Wherever possible, use open slat or lattice back occasional chairsthis will let light in and the furniture wont appear so solid. Along similar lines, when selecting units with doors, choose ones with glass fronts or mirrors to make the room feel larger and uncluttered. If you have chosen to include a television armoire or a wall unit with hinged doors in your floor plan, ensure that there will be enough clearance to open the doors easily.Choosing items with added storage and dual functionality will give you more places to put things. Being able to hide things away, especially in a room where extra space is an issue, will allow you to keep the room neater. And nothing can make a room feel cramped and small faster than clutter. If furniture pieces with added storage or dual functionality arent an option for your small living room, place baskets or storage trays in a section of a bookcase or shelving unit. Use them to store items you would like close at hand but dont want to leave lying around. When arranging knickknacks, collectibles, photos, etc., display them in groups in one main place or a couple of selected areas. Spreading them out around the room can make the room appear small and even untidy.

Beware! buying .925 sterling silver

Be very carefull!
Who in the world would of thought that someone would ever try to fake .925 sterling silver? But they do. My wife and I use to and still do run a small booth at a local flea market. We are always looking for things we can buy and sell. My wife likes jewerly, and I like cars. After searching for a long time, we found someone (alot of sellers actually)selling with GREAT deals on sterling silver, rings, bracelets and necklaces. Being that are ingee couldnt support a huge about of gold, or platinum items, we started buying the .925 sterling silver items. And let me just say, how impressed and happy we we're when we received them. BUT.....how sorely mistaken we truely were. See something you 1st have to understand about sterling silver is that people don't tend to even think to check them to see if they are real. And 6 out of the 6 jewerly stores, and 4 out of 4 pawn shops, we called, or went to wouldnt even "waste" the time to check it as well. It was only after several of my friends, seeing the massive amounts of sterling silver we were starting topile upbegan to ask questions. At this point, we had not sold any of them, and I am so thankfull we didn't! We were still waiting on all the items to gee in, before setting up to sell them. Thanks to a very close friend, who always use to collect jewerly he took a very close look at my stuff and claimed out right it was fake. THE JEWERLY WAS CLEARLY MARKED.....925, and it WAS CLEARED STATED in the add we bought it from it was .925 sterling silver. What it was in reality was crome coated lead. I litterly had some very good friends of mine arguing back in forth with each other with the items in hand saying it was real. And then listing several reasons it was. And again the "experts" wouldn't even take the time to test my jewerly. Thank God, aold businessfriend of mine runs a jewerly store, and took the time to test it. Or else I could of easily ruined our reputation, buy selling things that were fake. Don't let that happen to you.
So how can you avoid this............
Ask the seller outright if it is REAL sterling silver. I went back and emailed 1 and they quickly told me it wasn't but looked just like the real thing.Remember though, they cleared said on their selling sheet it was real! And only when confronted with a direct question did they say it wasn't. Then sadly when I asked another 1 of the sellers the same question they responded with, " It says 925 on it" atleast they told me what it said, but even theirs wasn't real.In our case we lost more then 300dollars. I paid to learn this lesson, you can know it for free.
How else can you avoid buying fake stuff?
Well....people now days are more educated about things then ever. We can simply log onto the internet, and discover things that it took more experienced people a life time to learn. Thanks to google wikepedia ect. Most people won't sell anything for less then its worth. Their are a few auction items you can buy fairly cheap, and sometimes you can get lucky and grab a good deal in bulk. ALSO ask questions! If it takes someone a long time to get back to you, you were better off not buying from that person in the 1st place. If they tell you what you are going to buy is what you think and you find out it isnt, well you have documented proof that they said that. And as long as you can show proof it isn't getting your money back is easy to do.
Be carefull
If i'm going to buy from someone and see that they have negative feedback, I don't automatically rule that person out. I try to click on the person's name that gave them that feedback, and look at some other feedback they left. Did you know by doing that, I found a person that gave 9 out of 10 items, from 10 different sellers all negative feedback! How quick I was to block that person from buying from us, and I'm glad I did. Just take some time to research who it is your buying from, just like you would with the item you are buying.
Hope this helps, best of luck! Be safe. In total, we spent over 700.00dollars.

Check List -- Do before you repair an old bicycle.

WARNING: Getting rusted freewheels and rusted cables to work as described below could be dangerous to the rider, causing the rider to have a wreck and injuring the rider. Bending metal as described below could be dangerous. Bending weakens the metal, and could cause the metal to break while someone is riding the bicycle, causing the rider to have a wreck and causing injury to the rider.
Do not fix a biycle as described below if someone else is going to ride it because they might be injured and blame you for the injury. If you will be the only one riding the bicycle, then you may have a wreck and be injured if youfix the bicycle using some of the unsafe methods which are described below.
The only reason I am telling about how tofix bicycles by the methods described below is that manypeople use those methods tofix old bicycles, although some of those methods can cause the bicycle to be unsafe to ride.If you buy an old bicycle, you may assume that the bicycle may have beenfixed so that it could be riddenby using some of the unsafe methods described below.
1. Check the wheels to see if they will be usable. Turn the wheels in the frame to see any obvious problems, such as rims bent, excessive looseness in the bearings, broken spokes, and spoke nipples that won't turn, Check the spoke nipples to see if they will turn by trying to loosen them.
If the inside of a spoke nipple has corroded so much that it will not turn when you try to tighten it, it will usually turn if you try to loosenit. The corrosion which was binding the nipple and the spoke together will usually break loose when you try to loosen the nipple. Thenthe nipplewill turn when you try to tighten it. If your spoke wrench is slightly too large for the nipple, you will round the corners of the nipple so that you will never be able to tighten the nipple. Spokes which were corroded so that you had to break the corrosion loose by loosening the nipple could be near the point of breaking and could be dangerous by breaking while someone is riding the bicycle. It would be saferto replacethem with new spokes instead of trying to save them.
Bent rims can be straightened fairly easily without any special tools, even when bent pretty badly in a wreck (see my article on strainghtening bent rims). But, bending metal can weaken it, causing it to break later, causing injury or death to the rider.
Check to see if the frame is bent or broken anywhere. Bent frames and forks can be straightened without any special tools, but bending metal can possible cause it to break later, causing injury or death to the rider.
2. Turn the crank and see if the chainrings (front sprockets) are bent. See if there is excessive looseness in the crank bearings which might indicate broken bearings or broken cup. If you don't feel roughness in the bearings, and if the sprocket doesn't wobble, it may just need to be tightened.
On one-piece cranks, check to see if the crank arms are bent, and if they are, straighten them or replace them. They can be straightened, but bending metal could cause it to break later causing injury to the rider.
3. Check derailleuts to see if they are bent or have broken or have missing parts. If axle mount derailleur, check to see if the dropout on the bicycle frame has been bent making the slot too wide where the rear wheel axle goes into the frame. If bent, the dropout can be straightened if it doesn't break while straightening. Also, bending metal weakens it and could cause it to break later, causing injury to the rider.
4. Check brake levers and shifters to see if they are usable. If you decide to fix the bicycle, check to see if any grease is left in the wheel bearings. If you want to do it really cheap, and not do it the right way, put some motor oil in the bearings without looking at them. If you want to do it the right way, put some grease in the bearings if needed. Adjust wheel bearings so the wheel turns freely with almost no play in the bearings. Don't tighten the bearings too much because they will get a little tighter when you mount the wheel in the frame.
Take tires off, straighten bent rims, tighten spokes, and true the rims. File off any spoke ends that are sticking through the nipples. Check tires for cuts etc. Feel inside tires and remove anything sticking in the tire that might punch a hole in the tube.
5. Do crank bearings the same way you did the wheel bearings. Straighten bent front sprockets and bent teeth on front sprockets. See if crank arms on 3-piece crank will tighten. If cottered arms won't tighten, replace the cotter pin. See if pedals are screwed into the crank arm as tight as they will go. Oil pedal bearings if they won't turn freely.
6. Do head bearings the same way you did the wheel bearings. See if handlebar and stem can be tightened enough so they won't slip.
WARNING: Putting oil in wheel bearings or in freewheel could be dangerous. The reasons are explained below. The oil could get on the rim, causing the brakes to not work, causing the rider to have a wreck. Putting oil in a freewheel that won't turn backwards could fix the freewheel, but it may not be fixed good and could fail at any time, causing the rider to have a wreck.
7. Straighten bent derailleurs. If freewheel won't turn backwards easily, run some oil in the crack on the freewheel, with some rags to catch any oil to prevent the oil from running down a spoke onto the rim. It would be dangerous to the rider if oil gets on the rim. Lay bicycle or wheel on its left side for several minutes or an hour until all the excess oil runs out onto the rags.
If the freewheel bearings are rusted and will not let the freewheel turn backwards at all, put some WD-40 in the freewheel and then work the bearings loose until the freewheel will turn backwards freely and will not turn forward. Just put pressure trying to turnthe freewheel counterclockwise, and then trying to turn it back clockwise. Do this many times until the freewheel will turn counterclockwise freely. Then, put some heavier oil in the freewheel Leave wheel laying on its side long enough so that all excess oil runs out and is caught on a rag.
WARNING: Putting oil in a freewheel as described above could cause the bicycle to fail, causing the rider to have a wreck, and causing injury to the rider. If the freewheel starts working, it may not be catching good and may slip when the rider is pedaling, causing the rider to have a wreck, and causing injury to the rider. Also, if oil gets on the rim, it could cause the brake to not work, causing the rider to have a wreck.
8. WARNING. Fixing rustec cables as described below may be dangerous to the rider, causing the rider to have a wreck and to be injured.
Cheap way to fix rusted brake and shifter cables: If the inner cable wire will not slide in the casing, or will not slide easily, it may be rusted. Run some oil or WD-40 into the cable without taking the wire out. Make some kind of little cup out of paper that you can fasten to the top ot the cable. Put several drops of oil in the cup and hang the cable so that the oil will run down into the cable with the wire in the cable housing until the oil gees out the bottom of the cable. Of course, it is better to take the inner cable wire out of the cable, sand the rust off, and twist the inner cable to see if any of the strands of wire will break where rusted (twist to see if it breaks before sanding. (Do not get any oil in friction shifters or on rim of wheel). If the inner cable will not slid at all, bend the cable everywhere by pulling it over a round object such the handle of a hammer.
WARNING: Rusted cable may break at any time, causing the rider to have a wreck and causing injury to the rider. It would be safer to replace the rusted inner cable than to make it work by sanding it and oiling it.
9. Adjust rear derailleur so that it will not push the chain off the largest cog and get the chain wedged between the largest cog and the spokes. Adjust so that the chain will not gee off the smallest cog on the outside. If index shifter, adjust so that it goes into each gear properly.
Adjust front derailleur so that the chain will not gee off the smallest front sprocket on the inside, and will not be pushed off the largestfront sprocket on the outside.
Put some oil on the pivot points of derailleurs and let the oil run into it. Don't let oil drip onto wheel spokes because it might get on the rim, and that would be dangerous to the rider.
10. Stretch new brake cables by pulling the brake lever fairly hard several times, then readjust brakes. Check to see if brakes squeal, and if they do, toe in the shoes so that the front part of the shoehits the rim slightly before the rear part of the shoe touches the rim.
11. Measure 24 links of the chain and if it measures 12 1/8 inches or more, it is time to replace the chain. However, it might be best to not replace the chain if the sprockets, front or rear, are worn too much. If you put a new chain on a sprocket that is worn too much, a new chain may ride up a tooth and JUMP over the tooth while the rider is pedalling. This could be dangerous. In this case, the chain AND the front and rear sprockets would need to be replaced, but this might be too expensive on a cheap bicycle.

Need a LCD with TV tuner with DVI inputs?

After driving back and forth between Best Buy, Fry's, and Costco, I discovered that lots of LCDs with TV Tuners have the words " PC Input ".
However, the input is the old, analog, VGA input.( 15-pin DE-15 connector )
To avoid losing quality on your Apple or PC video feed, use the DVI port.
Problem is there are few TV Tuner equiped LCDS with DVI in. However, Samsung has a few models with DVI input in !

Melt and Pour Soap Bases. Getting more for your money

Melt and Pour Soap Bases. Getting more for your money
There is a mind-boggling array of soaps available on okay and the Internet. From the very basic to the most exotic creations can be found in bars, brick, and gebo packs It gees down to the question of what to buy, and how much of each one. Hopefully this guide will help answer some of the basic questions for you. Ultra Clear - A very special, glassy clear glycerin soap that is so clear you can read the newspaper through an inch thick slice of it. It is best the best choice for embedding when the clearest properties are desirable. If you add color, depending on what kind of colorant materials you use, you may find you have lost all or most of the properties you wanted. Many herbs, flowers and other additives can cloud or reduce some of the clarity of ultra clear melt and pours. Because of this, it is usually best to save them for the jobs that require the most clarity and use clear soap bases for those where a less clear, transparent value is still desirable. A word of caution here: as much as possible try to make sure you are actually getting Ultra Clear Soap Base when purchasing, especially in large amounts. They are not all created equally and not all soap bases being referred to as Ultra Clear, are necessarily the clearest bases available. Mixing soaps for effect. Some Soap-makers prefer white glycerin (titanium white is added to clear glycerin soap base) or goats milk soap (ranging in color from batch to batch from very white, or with a slight hint of pink, to various shades of pink, cream, tan and yellow). The color has nothing to do with quality, but is a result of the particular goat milk being use on a specific day. The color can vary from day to day within the same herd. Avid Soap-makers quickly realize that it takes much more colorant to achieve a satisfactory depth of color when working with white/opaque soap bases, (such as white glycerin and goats milk base), than is needed when using only clear, transparent or translucent soap bases. The best of both worlds can be found by blending equal parts of your clear or transparent soap bases with your opaque/white bases. The look is the same, but there are a number of very nice benefits to be had when using this blend. One is that you will often find you soap will yield much more rich lather when blended. We have found that to be true with Golden Glycerin Melt

How to Keep Kids Safe on Halloween

Halloween is an opportunity for children to tell scary stories, dress up in silly costumes and parade around town begging for free goodies. One of the last things on children's minds at Halloween is safety. So it is up to the adults to ensure that kids are careful while trick-or-treating. Read on to learn how to keep kids safe on Halloween.1. Choose a costume for your child that fits properly. Kids can easily trip and fall if the costume drags on the ground.2. Make sure all costumes are made of flame-retardant material.3. Apply makeup instead of having the child wear a mask. If he insists on wearing a mask, make sure there are sufficient air holes around the nose and mouth and large openings for the eyes.4. Look for costumes with reflective pieces on them, especially on the back. You can also apply reflective tape to the costume yourself.5. Arm your child with a flashlight and a cell phone if old enough to go out on own, so she can easily be spotted and reached.6. Plan ahead and discuss with your child the route you will take and where to meet if you get separated.

How Too Tips for Maintaining

Not all jewelry is made the same, hence that is where we understand the range from handmade jewelry to the finest of rare gems. As a result, Basic Jewelry Care should begee a habit to maintain and preserve all our treasured jewels. These tips will help increase the life line of your jewelry regardless of how much you may spend.GETTING READY FOR THE DAY: From Cosmetics, Lotions, Perfumes, Hair Spray too sugar scrubs and other soaps ... All leave an imprint on your jewelry. Not all gemstones are alike, some are porous, others are harder than others, to metals and finishes. Pre-planning, by removing your jewelry securely and before using these items will help maintain the integrity of your gemstones, metals and finishes. Wearing your jewelry after your lotion drys for instance will not only help extend the cleanliness and sparkle of your jewelry...but will extend the life from potential damage if proper care is not taken.CHORES, MANNUAL LABOR, TASKS TOO SPAS: gemon sense tells us that while we are washing dishes, sanitizing things with chlorines and other harsh chemicals too performing tasks like moving furniture, gardening, sports, swimming in a chemically treated pool or soaking in a spaand other more rigorous activities can bring immediate harm to our jewels. To help avoid damage to prongs settings, loosing a stone, deep abrassions to your finish...simplify by removing your jewels. We sometimes forget that a simple bump on the side of our sink or soaking in chemicals too long and on a regular basis, shortens the lifespan of our most favorite treasures.SIMPLE CARE TIPS: Establish a care routine of washing your jewelry in a very mild warm soapy water after wearing at the end of the day. Why not use a all purpose polishing cloth to dry and put away in your jewelry box. Afterall, our skin sweats, some of us are more oily than others. Regardless of how meticulously clean we are...our natural oils from our skin if left on our jewelry for a period of time, will eat through the metal finish of your jewelry... removing life, sparkle or luster.TO DIP OR NOT TO DIP: Not all jewelry dips are the same. It is extremely important if you care about your jewelry, that you read your dips before soaking your jewelry in them for any period of time. For instance... Opals... oh my goodness, please use a cleaning cloth and do not soak. You will ruin your genuine opal otherwise. Gasp! I am not a gemologist, but a student of gemology still learning. It is not a bad idea to take a minute and research the care of your precious stones. As forgenuine hallmarked.925 Sterling Silver, ahh, dips and silver love each other. nothing like bringing back a brilliant shine with a quick dip and rinse in water before drying with a polishing cloth (my routine). Use your dips responsibly...pay attention to the manufactures labels before using on just anything. PleaseDO NOT USEtoothpaste, baking soda, or amonia. Really, leave it to the professionals, most dips are very affordable and can be found at your local pharmacy to department store...and of coures your favorite okayers stores.TO BRUSH OR NOT TO BRUSH: This is one of those that you should use your best gemon sense and judgement on. I personally use, this is me, and you do what you want please... but I use a soft bristled toothbrush that I have designated for jewelry cleaning. I do not apply pressure, I do not scrub... however, for my pronged jewelry or jewelry such as box or snake chain... all will collect your sweat and bodily oils. A gentle cleaning goes a long way. For example...and dont gross out, but if you wear glitter body cream...Oh my goodness you will be shocked when cleaning your sterling silver chain in a quick dip and gentle scrub. Quite literally, I dip my sterling silver chain, pull out, hold but lay against my bathroom sink... and gently brush the chain. You will see the dip turn into black residue from your skin. Imagine if you left it like that. Over a period of time, your silver looks dull becuase it is so caked up and dirty. So yes, a quick dip, a little light brushing over entire chain, rinse in water, I will dip one more time for measure, rinse in water again and then dry with polish cloth before putting away.CONCLUSION: With so much more that could be said, this is just basic jewelry care tips to help maintain and preserve the life of your jewelry. If you have any questions about how to clean or maintain a jewelry piece, I suggest you take a minute to research online or ask your local jeweler for assistance. I sincerely hope this guide helps you maintain and preserve all your treasures for years to gee. Thank you for reading me. SeaGemEmporium

Fabric Guide - how to tell what is the fabric content

The easiest way to tell the content of the fabric is to perform a burn test. This is the second-best way of identifying fabrics - the best is to examine the fibers under a microscope.
Before you perform the test, prepare a fireproof surface (a flat dinner plate will work) and make sure there is a container with water near by just in case.
Clip a long thin piece of the fabric, put itin the center ofa plate, and burn one endof the fabric.
Cotton's fibers (made from plant)ignite easily. If the fabric is pure cotton, nothing will remain butgray ash that easily disintegrates. When ignited it burns with a steady flame and smells like burning leaves.
Linen fibers (made from plant) takes longer to ignite than cotton. The fabric closest to the ash is very brittle. Ash crumbles easily.
If the fabric is pure silk (made from protein), the fabric will be hard to ignite and will give out a smell of burned hair. The flame is not steady. The ash is easily crumbled. The flame is not as easily extinguished as cotton or linen.
Wool (made from protein)is harder to ignite than silk. Wool weave islooser than silk. The flame is steady but more difficult to keep burning. The smell of burning wool is like burning hair.
Polyester (polymer made from coal and petroleum) melts and burns at the same time. the burned edge will have small hard plastic globules, synthetic materialmeltsrather thanburns. The smoke from polyester is black with sweetish smell. The ash is hard.
Rayon burns much as cotton does, as it is cellulose and is hard to tell from cotton with a burn test. It burns fast and leaves crumpling ash. The burning smell is close to burning leaves.
Nylon (made from petroleum) melts and burns rapidly. It smells like burning plastic.
Acrylic (made from natural gas and petroleum) burns readily. The ash is hard. The smell is acrid and harsh.
Acetate (made from cellulose wood fibers) burns rapidly with flickering flame and cannot be easily extinguished. It drips and leaves hard ash. The smell is similar to burning wood chips.

Protecting Your Images and your Art work Online

So many people seeking the one true answer to the one true question. How can they can protect their images online? How? How indeed. There are no true ways to stop images from being stolen from your website. However, there are a few ways to slow them down. However, to understand this you most first understand your foe. How are thieves getting the pic from your website? Below I have listed some of the top 8 ways to steal pics and animation/movies. You must first understand that nothing you put on line is truly protected.

How they are Stolen
1."Save Image As" with the right click mouse action.
2. Saving the page in Internet Explore Five (IE5) grabs all images on the page including backgrounds.
3. Directly linking to where the image is stored on the server and dragging pic out of window
4. Open the image from browser cache located in the Temporary Internet Folder
5. Screen capture programs and PrintScreen.
6. Taking an actually digital picture of it with camera and photo editing it in photo Shop
7. Recording flash movies or animation that is copy write protect on to your camera and then upload it to the PC and covering AVI or MPEG in to Flash files. Ready to use.
8. Siting down and drawing art work from site
9. Downloading the entire web site on to your hard drive.

How to Protect Images
Now that we know how most images are being stolen, it's good time to learn how to protect them from Internet thief's.
Watermarks
Placing your trademark or name on your image is one way to protect it. This can be done by using programs as Paint Shop or Corel Painter. Another good program to use called Digiarc (http://www.digimarc.ge/). Sigimarc embeds into your image so it can then be tracked across the net. Pretty cool, but its futile. Just like when the music industry were hunting down kids and the elder for downloading music illegally. That was a saw of time. They should have been looking for the people mass producing and bootlegging. The image once marked can be tracked for a fee. One advantage/disadvantage is there is no visible type to interfere with your image quality. Digimarc plug-ins are available for several different graphics programs including Photoshop and Corel.
As include a copy write notice at the bottom of each page. Some people like to emboss the on their image or make it look official. I've seen many people brand their name over the entire pic. A lot of arts do it. It's just stupid, because you can easy remove it in Paint Shop. It's just a pain to do it someone has their name about 50 times on a picture, but it can be done.
When making a water mark, it is best to but it in the picture and somehow make it look apart of the picture. I suggest to many artist that they do this in the their art. Some that is seen, but is not understood or seen by the wood be thief.
Beside side see the Word Copyrighted by MR. Stinky or something other is pretty annoying and takes away for the image your selling. Many people just might look some place else for a cleaner image so they can get a good look at the protect. They may figure that your trying to hide something.
Roll Over And Java Script
Roll over images are easy. When your mouse is moved over the image, a second appears. The second unseen image is rolled over the first. On the second image you can use your copy right image.
The right clicking mouse is one of the mouse gemon to grab an image. Deactivating this action is an obvious solution . There are several Java Scripts that can be used to disable the right click action. You will need a different script to protect you from other browse for the same script doesn't work in all the browsers. One trick is not to use Java, but normal scripts. Because this script does work if the user has Java script disable. Also a lot of the script do not work on Mac platforms
Table Method/Layering
The table method is similar to the roll over method, however it works like a layer. Start by making a table that is the same size as the photograph you want to protect. Insert the photo as the table background image. Then create a a table with in the first table. The tab second table should be the same size as the first table. In the second table you will insert a nul image.
To create a null image is easy. Open a new transparent document in your image editor and set the dimensions to those of the picture you are hiding. Save the image as transparent GIF file, then place the null/empty image with in the second table. What have you done. you may asked? You have copied over the first image with a see through image. Now it appears that you can right click and grab the image. But the truth is that you'll be grabbing the empty GIF or null image file.
The draw back to have this many table some times cause funny effect on your web page. But worst the image your attempting to hide is located in the browser cache. And you can take the image by taking by locating the file name in the image source code. A whole lot of work for nothing.
IDP - Image Directory Protection
Here's one important step that many people often over look. Most web designers place images and graphics in a separate image directory. Browsers look for an index page with in each subdirectory. If there is not one there, a geplete list off all your images and grab anything they want. The best way to stop this is to place an index page in some directory where you have placed your images.
This slow some people down, but they can just as easy now download your entire website on to their hard drive. Saving them a lot of trouble and can look in your info at any time they please.
Java Slide-Show
Some of the best affects are done with Java. Using Java Slide show is a great way to display your images. But the draw back is the slowing loading process. My favorite program for this are applets with can be found at http://www.anfyteam.ge/ .You can also assign link to each picture. My favorite has always been water effect and rain.
Browser Caching
You can prevent the browsers from caching the images on your web page. Insert the following code between the

Dreamsicles Purchasing Items Marked Signed

Though difficult to photograph
this is an example of a signed by Kristin piece. On the bottom of this piece you will find her "STAMP" and the "STICKER."
Dreamsicles are sculptures designed by artist Kristin Haynes. They were originally manufactured by Cast Art Industries, but are now being manufactured by Willits.
The Dreamsicles manufactured by Cast Art all were stamped on the bottom with the artist's first name, Kristin. That does not mean that she signed every piece. However the stamp is a copy of her signature. She also engraved I guess you would call it on many pieces her name, Kristin. This also does not mean that she personally signed or carved her name on each piece. Frankly it would be impossible for her to do so and create new pieces at the same time.
My point, in all of this, is a level of frustration I have found when shopping here for these cute little statues. Some that are for sale are actually signed personally by the artist. She used to have appearances around the country and called it a signing day. Much like you see with authors with a new release book. She sometimes signed her name and the year she signed it, not the date of the release. And, if you were very lucky she signed a little moto to go with the piece. Like, follow your dreams, etc.
Please do not pay extra or purchase a Dreamsicle that you think is personally signed by the artist if it only has the bold stamped signature, Kristin and the year. This is done at the factory.
Also something to look for on your Dreamsicle is the sticker that in later years included the name and number of the particular Dreamsicle. The early years just had a generic sticker that was more black and for the serious collector is important to see. The carving of her name on pieces is gemon in the beginning as on, The Flying Lesson as well as some of the later pieces. This is sweet, and it was nice that she included that but it is not a signature.
Just as you might purchase a print of an oil painting that is signed by the artist on the original painting, you do not assume that, that signature is only on your print. However, if you are fortunate enough to meet the artist and he/she signs above it on your print...Then, you have an autograph.
I hope this makes this clear. It is upsetting for the sellers of Dreamsicles that are actually autographed to see that there are sellers claiming their pieces are also signed. Signed can mean many things. I hope this has made it clear to the collectors out there that really want a unique Dreamsicle.

Creative Inspiration for Painters

As a painter, our best work is done when we are inspired. But how do we get that inspiration? Here are some of the ways I gain my inspiration. Hope this guide helps you to get over the "creative block "hump" or be even more inspired!
1. Observe the world. I love the water and also big cities. So I can get inspiration by visiting a new vacation spot or city. Where are some of your favorite places to be? Using photos you've taken or other's have given you permission to paint from, create your own happy place..chances are it's someone else's too.
2. Hobbies. What do you like to do? Sailing, Golfing, Animals etc can be great inspiration.
3.What are others creating and how can you make their style fit for you? Go to museums, galleries and visit okay art.
4. Movies and Books. What are your favorites and if you where asked to design for a set or cover what would you paint?
5. Meditate or Think On It. This may sound corny but sometimes just sitting and thinking about your creative dreamcan bring wonderful new ideas.
6. Just Do It. Sometimes the simple act of putting a brush to paper can inspire you.
Hope you have some wonderful inspiration gee your way soon.
Warm Regards,
Pam

Bidding on International/Foreign Currency Auctions

Bidding on and winningan auction that originates outside of the United Statescan bejust as easy to geplete as a domestic auction if youare educated abouta few things --language, currency, and shipping/customs.
Language. Many sellers outside of the United States do not speak English. That should not prevent you from bidding because numerous (free) online translators abound and can help just enough with gemunicating. One translatorI use on a regular basis and with reasonable success isvia babelfish. (okay prevents me from putting the entire link in this guide.)Initially, it's a matter of copying and pasting the auction descriptionand picking the language you wish to translate. Don't expect a grammatically perfect translation (sometimes the translation will make you laugh) but it'sdefinitely good enough to get by.
Currency. There are also numerous sites for currency conversion. Use them, because when you're perusing the international sites, you will not automatically get conversion to U.S. dollars or other currencies. In addition, currencies arealways fluctuating and can even change during an auction's lifecycle. For example, when the euro was born a few years ago, it was worth about 80 cents against the U.S. dollar. Now it's worth considerably more than the dollar -- upwards of $1.30. The British pound is about double the value of the U.S. dollar. Also, don't forget which currency the seller is using when youconsider placing a bid otherwise you may be gemitting to a higher bid than you wanted to!
Not every seller accepts PayPal so you may have to mail their native currency or international money orders via snail mail. Both options have added costs. International money orders (the one and only time I tried it) was an additional US$20! I've purchased euros at American Express offices (they have numerous other currencies available) but, they too, have additional fees, which add up pretty quickly. American Express does not deal with coins, only paper money. But I've found most sellers will mail the change with the auction item. Sometimes the seller will accept U.S. dollars. It doesn't hurt to ask if they will.
Shipping. An important thing to remember when viewing international auctions is that not every seller is willing to ship outside of their country or region. Ask. Just don't assume that they will ship outside of their country. A sad fact is that manysellers will overcharge on shipping (unfortunately, domestic sellers as well) so be perfectly clear on this aspect of the auction before you bid. As a personal example, I won a tiny stuffed animal that couldn't have weighed more than a few ounces, yet the seller wanted to charge the equivalent of US$30 for shipping it from Germany. I backed out of the auction. If I had been smart, I would have asked about shipping ahead of time. I would have never bid on that auction, no matter how much I wanted the item.
Customs. In this post 9-11 world, packages sometimes take longer to arrive at their destination because customs officers open and examine packages more frequently. It's not to your benefit to lie about a package's contents because it may be confiscated and even destroyed. Keep in mind, too, that many countries charge extra customs fees when an item originates outside of their boundaries.
Conclusion and Personal Experience. Get all questions answered ahead of time, especially when it pertains to shipping costs. While okay is cracking down on excessive shipping costs, as you may have read, don't rely on them to rescue you if you get in over your head. If you're not satisfied with the seller's answers, listen to your gut. Don't bid ... no matter how much you want the item. Allow sufficient time for the item to reach you. Airmail from Europe to the United States can take as little as a few days or as long as three weeks. Shipment by sea can take six to eight weeks. Australia seems to be a little quicker. The one item I won that was shipped from Romania was here just as quickly as any European shipment. (But, boy oh boy, I was sweating on that one because I hadn't dealt with that country before!)
I hope this guide helps and eases your fear about bidding on international/foreign currency auctions. Please email if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to see this guide expanded in areas. Thanks and have fun!

Horse riding airbag safety jackets and vests

AIRBAG Safety jacketsHorse sport riders now have a range of new safety jackets available with a built-in airbag system. In an accident, when the rider is thrown from the horse an airbag built into the jacket or vest is activated by a short lanyard (coil wire) fitted to the saddle D-ring or monkey bar. The airbag protects the riders chest, neck, shoulders, back, spin and bottom instantly. This is a new level of protection against injury or death. The HIT AIR system has been used successfully since 1985. The airbag system is reusable if it is not damaged, and can be reset by the rider within 5 minutes. The CO2 gas cartridge costs $20AUD and the vests around $600AUD. Jackets range from $750AUD.NOTE: This guide is based on the Airbag jackets and gloves by HIT AIR from Japan (Mugen Denko Co Ltd) which have been on the market since 1985 and have a proven safety record. HIT AIR is the market leader with
several thousand units sold throughout Asia, Europe, Australia and
now also the US. We are the exclusive Australian distributors of this product and wish to provide this advice for
okay users as we are strongly interested in the safety of riders and
pillions.

Non-Paying Bidders Suck! Get Even!

Every month I get 2 or 3 non-paying bidders. Many sellers just take the loss and forget about it, relist the item, and life goes on. This is a bad practice. It gives the deadbeat bidder a chance to continue screwing the sellers. I feel they should be reported, 1 to let others know they do not pay, and 2 to get your final value fee refunded. I personally have made it my policy to file a non-paying bidder geplaint and leave negative feedback. These deadbeats need to be kicked off okay.

RECYCLE! Change the Purpose To Bring NEW LIFE to Items!

RECYCLE! Change The Purpose Of Vintage Clothing To Bring NEW LIFE to The Old!
Did you ever find a piece of clothing or something that is Vintage and just love it because of the colors or type of fabric or design? Then you read the description and find outit is damaged with a stain orholes or tears in it. You say to yourselfI would not wear something that is damaged and I do not believe it can be fixed. I justreally LOVE the colors and pattern of the fabric!
You can still enjoy the colors and/or some of the fabric or design. You can Recycle and help the environment by Changing The Purpose of the Item!
Put Your Creative Mind to Work!
Think about how else the item can be used...

For example a t-shirt that has a design on it can be cut out and put on a piece of cardboard and framed as a piece of nostalgic art.

It is great if you can sew but you really do not need to be able to sew. If you can not sew or do not have access to sewing equipment there is another way. There are fabric glues and I actually made a pairof curtains for a bedroom by glueing the edges and making a place to insert the curtain rod and also doing the hem and it is still gepletely washable.

There are some beautiful buttons and trims on dresses and coats that can easily be taken off and can be used on Scrapbook pages or as embellishments for other clothing or pillows.
It is just never ending what you can do with fabric and other vintage items.

You can purchase a Shadow Box or if you are crafty with wood make one and include all types of vintage items in the shadow box. Then take some beautiful fabric from an old dress that was in bad shape and cut into different shapes to make a collage of that era.

You can take squares of different fabric and make a full quilt if you sew or you can take and make a smaller version with glue and fabric squares and apply to canvas or poster board and make a beautiful quilt wall hanging.

Mens ties can be made into fabric rosettes that are really popular with Women's Fashions.

All types of fabrics, buttons and trim can be made into handbags or made into throw pillows.

Adult clothing can be a good source of fabric for another family member's clothing. such as a dress can bere-designed into a skirt or a blouse depending on the location of the damage or can be made into a smaller design for children's clothing.

Old furs - real or faux can be made into hats or pillow covers.

Vintage Hankerchiefs can be sewn together to make pillow tops or place mats.
Please use gemon sense when making a decision to cut up fabrics or change the purpose of fabrics or other items. Most collectors believe an old worn, ragged or slightly damaged fabric is not grounds for cuttingfabric into pieces because they are desirable forhistorical value. I believe if the fabric or item can be changed to have another purpose and bring NEW LIFE to the fabric or item the history of it can still be told.
I would like to conclude by saying:
To: Buyers -When you are shopping on okay for Vintage items because you just really love Vintage items and you find a piece of clothing that you just LOVE the fabric and colors and then you discover when reading the decription that it does havedamage such as holes, tears or stains try to picture some other ideas for using the fabric or other items and go ahead and purchase it to bring NEW LIFE to the fabric or item. You will be so glad you did because you LOVE it so much and you will feel good because you SAVED it from going to the RAG PILE!
To Sellers - When listing your items that have damage such as holes, tears or stains in your description you may want to include some ideas that you may have for using the beautiful fabric because the possible buyer may not be thinking of other ways to use and it may help encourage a shopper to go ahead and purchase the item to Bring it a NEW LIFE so it does not have to go to the RAG PILE!
There are so many ways to bring a NEW LIFE to OLD ITEMS AND FABRICS that no one person can think of them all so lets do something to save more of the beautiful old fabrics, embellishments and other items that can really have a NEW LIFE.Lets all help to get the message and the ideas out there so NOTHING GOES TO THE RAG PILE!
Watch for the my Blog geing Soon for everyone to Post photos and directions on creating and making things from Vintage Clothing that will give them a NEW LIFE so we can get the word out there to RECYCLE and help others to be more creative in their thinking of what can be done with this beautiful clothing. I will look forward to your great ideas.
Thanks for taking the time to read my Guide and Please visit my store and auctions frequently so you do not miss out on any of the wonderful Old Items to be given a NEW LIFE by you.

Volvo Paint and Interior Code Guide

Hi there. This is a guide to help people be able to find their paint
code and their interior code for their Volvo cars. Here is a picture of
the metal ID plate that you will find in your engine gepartment.
In newer cars this looks a little different and in various models it
may be located on the inner driver's fender, header panel or on the
fire wall. All of the numbers you see here are indicators of various
aspects of your car. In the right hand column you will see one line
with four characters on it... this is your interior color
code. If you call a place and are looking for a seat or an arm rest,
per say, you will be asked for this number if you are being helped
properly. Volvo has many colors and shades of various colors for the
inside or out that can be similar so it is best to know your color
code. Also, in the column on the right is your paint code. it is
usually a three digit number with a dash and two other numbers (which
are insignificant). Those first three numbers make your exterior paint code.

The mysterious and spiritual fleur de lis!

Fleur de lis

The fleur de lis, also known as fleur de lys or flower-de-luce, is a gorgeous symbol of purity and an unofficial symbol of France. The name translates into English as 'flower of the lily'. It's exact origin remains slightly mysterious and somewhat spiritual. One belief is that the lily or 'lis'sprung fromEve's tears as she left Eden in the fall of man.
Beginning in the 11th century, French royalty adopted the symbol as a baptismal symbol of purity. One legend arose that the lily appeared as 'a gift of blessing from an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary'. King Louis VI became the first French monarch to use the fleur de lis on his shield. Later, several English kings incorporated the symbol into their coats of arms to show their claims to the throne of France.
Throughout history and across several kingdoms, the three petals of the fleur de lis came to represent faith, wisdom, and chivalry. They also came to symbolize the holy trinity.
Some fleur de lis facts:

Joan of Arc carried a white banner showing God blessing the French royal emblem while leading French troops into battle

the fleur de lis featured prominently in the crown jewels of England and Scotland
it is a popular symbol of New Orleans,LA - used in art, architecture, is on the city's flag and the logo for the New Orleans Saints football team
it is also featured on the St Louis, MO flag as the city marks the convergance of the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois rivers
it is also featured on the Quebec, Canada flag.
(no surprise as all three cities share a French heritage)
New Orleans St LouisQuebec

it is the flower of the Kappa Kappa Gamma womens fraternity (the word 'sorority' was not coined until after their founding) and on their coat of arms
it is also the symbol of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity
Boy Scouts of America

LEXMARK 12A1970/15M0120 Printer Compatibility Chart

This guide is a list of the printers that are gepatible with the LEXMARK 12A1970 #70 and the LEXMARK 15M0120 #20 Inkjet CartridgesI realize that there are alot of printers listed below. An easy way to find yours is to just do a search on the page. In internet explorer or Firefox if you type the ctrl (control button) and the letter F at the same time this will bring up the Find window. Also I'd suggest that if you don't find your printer you take out the letters when doing the search. For example if your printer is a LEXMARK X4250 just type in the numbers 4250 that way regardless of how it is referred to it will show up.The LEXMARK #70 has 1 chamber filled with Black Ink. While lexmark doesn't release how much ink is in the cartridge they do represent that it will print approximately 600 pages. This translates to around 20ml of ink.The LEXMARK #20 has 3 chambers filled with Cyan Magenta and Yellow like the one above they don't release how much ink is in the cartridge but it will print 275 pages at high resolution.Buying Tip:. There is a universal top for the Lexmark #70 it will not fit all printers. It's a good idea to be sure you are getting original top. Of course Bidabit only sells original top.The 15M0120 on the other hand is almost always remanufactured with a universal top. That is because the manufacturing process involves removing the top gepletely.Lexmark 12a1970 #70LEXMARKCOLORJETPRINTER 7000, 7200, 7200V, ,3200, ,5000, ,5700, ,5770, ,7000, ,7200, ,7200V,LEXMARKOPTRA COLOR 40, 40n, 45, 45n LEXMARK X125, LEXMARK X4250, LEXMARK X4270, LEXMARK X63, LEXMARK X73, LEXMARK X83, LEXMARK X84 AIO, LEXMARK X85, LEXMARK Z11, LEXMARK Z31, LEXMARK Z41, LEXMARK Z42, LEXMARK Z43, LEXMARK Z45, LEXMARK Z51, LEXMARK Z52, LEXMARK Z53, LEXMARK Z54, LEXMARK Z82 SPCLEXMARK PHOTO JETPRINTER 5770, LEXMARK F4270, gePAQA1000, A1400, A1500, A3000, A4000, A900, C3 1000 COLOR MFP, IJ1200, IJ300, IJ700, IJ750, IJ900,KODAK PM100,NEWGEN SYS.COLORIMAGE 6000,SAMSUNG MJ-4500C, SAMSUNG MSYS 4700, SAMSUNG MSYS 4800, SAMSUNG SCX-1100, SAMSUNG SCX-1150F, SAMSUNG SF-3150, SAMSUNG SF-430, SAMSUNG SF-4500C, SAMSUNG SF-4700, SAMSUNG SF-4750C, SAMSUNG SMARTJET,LEXMARK 15M0120 #20LEXMARK PHOTO JETPRINTER P706, P707LEXMARK PrinTrio PHOTO P3150LEXMARK X125, X4250, X4270, X63 COLOR, X73 COLOR, X83 COLOR, X84, X85LEXMARK COLOR JETPRINTER Z41, Z42, Z43, Z45, Z51, Z52, Z53, Z54, Z703, Z705, Z710, Z715, Z82 SPCLEXMARK F4270, P3120gePAQ A1000 COLOR, gePAQ A1500, gePAQ IJ1200

UNMOUNTED Stamps--What does this really mean?

Golden Sunrise Enterprises has been in the business of rubber stamps and supplies since 1995. In all this time, selling an 'Unmounted' stamp has always meant one thing...an impression (stamp) with nothing attached to it, or sometimes a piece of cushion is attached. However, it has recently gee to my attention that there is at least one gepany out there that has been selling stamps with a mounting kit and is calling these stamps 'unmounted'.
Before you buy an unmountedrubber stamp, read the description carefully. If the Seller does not describe what they mean by 'unmounted', please ask them!

A truly unmounted stamp is a piece of rubber without anything attached. The advantages of this are many. You can attach any mounting system that you like. HALOS is my favorite, though attaching gray or red rubber and using traditional wood mounts is also a possibility.
I've had customers geplain before when they've ordered 'unmounted' stamps from other vendors and gotten a piece of rubber with cushion attached. This would be good for people who like to fill up their stamping room with wood-mounted stamps, but the customers who have geplained prefer other forms of mounting stamps, like HALOS.
Lately, I've heard that there is at least one gepany (one very large one) that sells what they call 'unmounted' stamps, when they are really selling mounting kits with their stamps. I have heard that these include cushion, wood, and a sticker and then the customer puts it all together. Once again, this would be good for someone who wishes to use wood-mounted stamps. Unfortunately, the definition of 'unmounted' stamp has begee muddied.
Please ASK before buying. NO ONE wants an unhappy customer! Especially Golden Sunrise Enterprises!
Please vote below if this has helped you or not. Thanks!

The Difference Between Banners

2001 Suzuki XL-7 4X4

I purchased my 2001 Suzuki XL-7 new. In the five years I have owned it, I have actually had people follow me, stop me, and ask me what I thought of the car and whether or not I would regemend it. The answer is: I *love* the car, and I would regemend it to anyone whose needs in a vehicle match my own.The Suzuki XL-7 is the "top of the line" Suzuki, and is an SUV. Mine has an automatic transmission with four-wheel-drive. The primary difference between the Grand Vitara and the XL-7 is the third rown of seating (and rear air conditioning). For an SUV, the Suzuki XL-7 is on the small side. Though you can fit seven passengers in it, there is really only room for four adults, a pre-teen, and two small children. The rear seat offers almost no leg room, so it is mostly for either a single adult who doesn't mind being buckled in sideways, or two small children/carseats.I get excellent gas mileage -- approximately 28 MPG average. I do both city and extended driving, and the mileage does, of course, drop when I use the car only for short hops within town.BEST FEATURES:My Suzuki XL-7 has been flawlessly dependable. All I've invested in this car in five years is routine maintenance and a new set of tires. The four-wheel-drive is "shift on the fly" with some limitations: you must have the wheels straight, be driving under 50 MPH, and you must switch the transmission into neutral to engage the 4WD. After five years, all electronic devices including windows, cruise control, AC, the engine, door locks, radio, etc. are all in perfect working condition -- not a hitch in five years. The car gees with a full-size spare tire.Overall, the vehicle is on the small side, but economical and highly dependable.Headlights gee on and shut off automatically when you start the car and/or engage the transmission. Nice safety feature, and you'll never forget to turn your lights off and have to face a dead battery!Lots of headroom and legroom for driver and passenger. Even a very tall or long-legged driver (like myself) can find a good driving position without the roof pressing down on their head.Headrests for ALL passengers! Even on the third row seat!WORST FEATURES:Seating isn't very gefortable, even for the driver. I was previously spoiled to the exceptional seating offered by Dodge/Chrysler, so it has taken some adjusting to accept the stiffer seats of the Suzuki. The 4WD makes a grinding sound if you try to make too sharp a turn when 4WD is engaged.General service can be performed by any reliable mechanic, but things like warranty service or replacement of oxygen sensors requires a trip to the dealership. General rule of thumb: if it involves the on-board chip in any way, take it to the dealership to get the work done. Otherwise, you'll pay for a repair, then have to take it to the dealership anyway to have the chip properly reset.Getting in and out of the third seat is awkward at best, and not regemended for an adult-size person.Headrests have to be removed manually and stowed below the seats to convert the back two rows of seating to "flatbed" space for cargo. Conversion from seating to cargo space is otherwise very simple and can be done by one person. What I like best about my Suzuki XL-7 is that it is economical, very reliable, inexpensive to maintain and repair, and it perfectly suits my needs as well as my personality. I also pay less in insurance for this particular SUV than I have for any other I have ever owned. This vehicle has proven itself over time as a safe, dependable, and pleasurable ride. UPDATE JANUARY 2007:While everything I had to say about my XL-7 held true up until now, I am disappointed to have to add that when it came time to have my state inspection renewed this year, I couldn't get the car to pass. The test kept geing back with one oxygen sensor not working. First we replaced it; three mechanics later, we figured out there was nothing wrong with the oxygen sensor - all diagnosed as working properly. It was the geputer chip. It took a total of five visits to mechanics - including one to the dealership - to figure this out (no, ultimately it wasn't the dealership that figured out the problem. They just said what everyone else had, "We reset the chip. You just have to drive it for about 50-100 miles to get it to reset.") Bottom line:I ended up with a car that would not pass state inspection without a new geputer chip. All advice leaned toward trading in and buying a new car for what the chip replacement would cost, and that is what I had to do. So a word of caution if you are looking at purchasing a used XL-7: make SURE the "service engine" light isn't on, and it has RECENTLY passed an emissions/state inspection test before you buy. Mine only had 50,000 miles on it when this happened! Once the chip went bad, there was nothing for me to do but get rid of the car.
