WHERE TO FIND THE FAKES, REPRODUCTIONS, REISSUED GLASS

Hi all,
I just wanted you to know that there is a wholesale glass and pottery dealer out there by the name of Rosso's that is producing a vast amount of reissued and reproduced items that appear on okay. If you are uncertain about an item you are buying, go to their site and see if you can find it there. If it is sold by Rosso's, it is BRAND NEW, and probably can be purchased from their Fort Robinson Outlet. Don't let sleazy okay dealers outwit you - KEEP INFORMED. Fraudulent delaersnearly always saythey have found these items at estate sales (always in the South - don't they have estate sales in the North :) to make them seem old and to try and play clueless when confronted about the true age of the item.
To see a specific item you are looking for, orchecking up on, go to their website and type in the item in the Search box (e.g., blackface, jadite, Flow Blue, McCoy). I cannot put the website URL or a link in this guide as it is against okay policy to insert a direct link toan outside website, but if you type the words Rosso Wholesale (or even Ft. Robinson Outlet)into your Search Engine, a reference to the site will gee up.
Keep in mind that Rosso's is a wholesaler and deals in brand new items - both imported and American made (Fenton, Mosser Glass, etc.). To my knowledge they do not condone resaling these items as authentic or "old" or "vintage." However, they do buy reprductions that carry old trademarks, like McCoy and Hull, which I'm sure they realize encourages less honest dealers to lie about the authenticity and age of the cookie jars. Also, Rosso's sell many reissued Westmoreland items, made by Mosser glass. Again, it is the dealer's that perpetrate these items as old Westmoreland, rather than new glass made in old Westmoreland molds.
We have no problem with those who sell new glass or imported items, they may be tomorrow's collectibles. The problem occurs when unscrupulous, greedy dealers label these new items as old, vintage, "from an estate sale," Fire King jadite, old McCoy, old Americana collectible, etc. The person looking for the original old items to collect has a lot of homework to do with all the reproductions and bad dealers around.
Here is just a partial listing of the items sold by this wholesaler:

Dolls

Shirley Temple items: The latest Rosso flyer I received had a Shirley Temple picture on a newAnchor Hocking vase!!! They have put Shirley on almost anything that can be made in cobalt. BEWARE of anything with Shirley Temple on it, if you are wanting to collect vintage items. Do your homework.
Slippers and Shoes - glass in every color imaginable - some imported - check out their site to see all.
Spice Shakers and Spice Racks/holders: lots of jadite found in this area.
Solid Glass Animals
Table Sets
Tobacco Jars
Vaseline Glass - Rosso's is cranking these items out by the freight load. Has almost destroyed the vaseline collector's market there is so much new stuff (and yes, it glows just like the old) - nearly impossible to tell from the original unless you are a seasoned collector. Fraudulent okay dealers have made a small fortune selling the new items as "old" to unsuspecting buyers.
Venus Rising doll and lamp vase "Bashful Charlotte"
Wallpockets

As a final note, we regemend buying from someone you trust and if you are buying on okay, we don't regemend buying from someone with private or hidden bidders ID. The main reason your ID is hidden is so that no one can write to you and inform you that the item is not authentic. Ask about seller's refund policies in case the item is new. The new okay feedback policies have reduced the number of dealers who are selling new as old, but keeping yourself informed of the new reproductions and the latest imports is the best way to protect yourself.
Good Luck,
Anchor Hocking Glass Museum
